Uganda anti-gay law protest takes place outside London embassy
The protest was organised by the UK Consortium on AIDS and International Development, with the support of the Kaleidoscope Trust and the Peter Tatchell Foundation. It called on Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, and his parliamentarians, to reject the bill and to stop persecuting LGBT people. A letter of protest was handed in to the High Commission.
We stand in solidarity with Ugandan lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people against the draconian Anti-Homosexuality Bill, said Peter Tatchell. It is probably the world s most harsh and comprehensively homophobic law even more severe than the extreme anti-gay laws of countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran. Last week, Archbishop Desmond Tutu called on Uganda to scrap the bill and declared it was unjust .

Scotland: Low school bullying figures give misleading impression say LGBT campaigners
Scott Cuthbertson, from the Equality Network, also backed the suggestion and said: I think a lot of cases are not reported because young people have not come out and are not confident because there is a fear their parents will be told it is homophobic bullying. There are certainly more people who have expressed to us that they were bullied at school in the Highlands or saw homophobic bullying when they were at school. Councillor Alex MacLeod, a Scottish National Party Caithness councillor who lives in Easter Ross, told the North Star paper: I don t believe there was only one incident of homophobic bullying in the Highlands.
He added: There isn t the same confidence about coming out in the Highlands compared to urban areas like Glasgow and Edinburgh. The councillor also recommended that improvements should be made to reporting documents, making them less cumbersome , meaning teachers would find them easier to use. Earlier this year, Stonewall revealed in its School Report of 2012 that 55% of lesbian, gay and bisexual pupils in Britain s secondary schools experienced homophobic bullying, while 99% heard the word gay used disparagingly.

Essex: Gay hairdresser who launched scissor attack after receiving homophobic abuse is jailed
Howett had been drinking heavily and was sitting on a bench waiting for a train to arrive at the station when a group of three men carrying pints of beer joined the platform. The Mail reports Howett, who was already in an emotional state after confronting an ex-partner, became annoyed with their rowdy behaviour and shouted at them to shut up. A scuffle then broke out, during which a homophobic comment was made by the victim, who also sustained a bite mark from Howett.
The Essex hairdresser then went back to the bench and took a pair of hairdressing scissors out of his bag and subsequently attacked the victim with the instruments. It was heard in court that Howlett had been subjected to homophobic abuse since his school days and had recently left a volatile relationship with his ex-partner. He pleaded guilty to one count of wounding with intent.
Judge David Owen Jones sentenced Howett to two and half years in prison. Addressing the defendant, he said: It may be and I accept it probably was the case that one of the young men made a homophobic comment towards you. That must have been hurtful but unfortunately you reacted very badly when it would have been easier to distance yourself from the group.

US Democrats LGBT campaign group faces possible closure due to funding crisis
He also told the Washington Blade that the organisation s most-recent budget was between $130,000 ( 80,600) and $140,000 ( 86,800) compared from its 2008 budget of nearly $700,000 ( 434,420). Though Mr Davis says his group appeared debt-free by the end of July, it spent about $20,000 ( 12,400) at this year s Democratic National Convention. Mr Davis is currently the only full-time staffer and says he has cut the budget to about $10,000 ( 6,200) a month.
The National Stonewall Democrats was founded in 1999 by gay Massachusetts congressman Barney Frank.
The 72-year-old, who married his partner in July, is retiring from the US Congress after serving for more than 30 years in January 2013.
