Prince Harry Saved Fellow Soldier From Antigay Attack

Prince Harry Saved Fellow Soldier From Antigay Attack Gay British Lance Corporal James Wharton said his fellow soldier, Prince Harry, came to his defense when six other soldiers verbally harassed him and threatened to beat him. Wharton went to Harry, who was his tank commander, to report the 2008 incident, according to the Daily Mail . "I told him, 'I think I'm going to be murdered by the infantry.' I climbed into the turret and talked Harry through exactly what had happened," Wharton wrote. "He had a complete look of bewilderment on his face. I couldn't stop the tears from welling up in my eyes.

He said, 'Right, I'm going to sort this shit out once and for all.' He climbed out of the tank and I poked my head out of the turret a few moments later to see him having a go." Harry confronted the other soldiers and then reported the incident to a senior officer.

Wharton's new book, Out In the Army , chronicles his life in the military, as well as details of his camaraderie with Prince Harry. (Via Advocate )

STUDY: Are Gays More Likely to Be Poor?

STUDY: Are Gays More Likely to Be Poor? Who says that all gays are rolling in disposable dough? A new study from The Williams Institute claims that LGBT Americans are actually more likely to be poor than straights, especially among African-Americans and women.

Using data from four different surveys, New Patterns of Poverty in the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Community basically concludes that queer folk are "more vulnerable to being poor" and that "same-sex couples are more vulnerable to poverty in general than are same-sex couples." Here are just a few findings related to gay men: 10.2% of men in same-sex couples who live in small metropolitan areas are poor, compared with only 3.3% of coupled gay men in large metropolitan areas. Almost one in four children living with a male same-sex couple are in poverty, compared to 12.1% of children living with married different-sex couples.

7.7% of gay male couples receive food stamps, compared to 6.5% of different-sex married couples. I think people are surprised there are any poor gay people, lead study author M.V.

Lee Badgett tells CNBC , noting that we don't see poor gay people on television or in movies. This myth of gay affluence has been around for a long time. It gets in the way of people even imagining that LGBT people can be poor.

Are you surprised, or are you broke as a joke?
