The ecumenical heart of Archbishop Justin Welby

From the four corners of the earth they came to feel the spirit of Anglicanism; to hear the heartbeat of the Church of England; to watch the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury installed in both the Diocesan Throne and the very marble Cathedral Chair once occupied by such luminaries as Augustine, Anselm, ... Video: Pastor says Sodom and Gomorrah was God s pilot study for homosexual society

An anti-gay US pastor has responded to a question on his internet radio show, to say that the biblical story of Sodom and Gomorrah was meant as God to be a pilot study , and a way of dealing with homosexual society . Speaking on his own show, Hagee Hotline, Pastor John Hagee said that the ciblical story of Sodom and Gomorrah was God s pilot study . He went on to say that if the righteous accept homosexuality, judgement will come , reports Right Wing Watch.

The pastor was responding to the question: If the government does eventually completely legalise homosexual marriage, would God hold us accountable as Christians? Also, does it make a difference that we are only changing our worldly laws and not His laws? He said: First of all, let me say that Sodom and Gomorrah is God s pilot study for his response to the homosexual society.

The fact is that not everyone in Sodom and Gomorrah was homosexual. When Abraham was bargaining with God for 50 righteous, 40 righteous, 30 righteous, 20 righteous and finally it levelled off for 10. He said, will you save Sodom and Gomorrah for 10 righteous?

He was saying this would be ten people who opposed homosexuality. They were not found. So it s not if the government approve it, it s if the people accept it.

And if the righteous accept it, judgement will come. In January, John Hagee used his radio show to say anything other than a man marrying a woman is two disturbed people playing house. Republican presidential nominee John McCain was forced to cut ties with Hagee during the 2008 US election.

Last year, Hagee warned that the repeal of the Defence of Marriage Act would lead to polygamy.

Sicily: Governor who said the Vatican should allow equal marriage allowed to return to church

Rosario Crocetta said the Vatican should allow equal marriage and employ a female pope A Sicilian governor has made up with a priest who took offence when he said that the Catholic Church should elect a female pope and allow equal marriage for gay and lesbian couples. The openly-gay Governor Rosario Crocetta, said that he met up with Father Luigi Petralia, a parish priest in Gela, and that they embraced after the spat. This affair belongs to the debate over ideas and the case is closed, said Crocetta.

Last week, during a TV interview with L7, the centre-left governor compared himself to Galileo, the 17th century Italian astronomer who was forced by the church to deny his discovery that the earth revolved around the sun, reports Ansa. He said that the church should have a woman pope, married priests and even to celebrate gay marriage . Father Petralia said that the governor would be allowed to return to the church if he showed repentance for his comments, and if he confessed.

Responding to Crocetta s comments, the priest said that the comments were those of a showman rather than of a politician or a Christian politician and that they effectively placed Crocetta outside the Catholic Church . They are very serious issues that have already been resolved within the Catholic Church, which does not expect answers from Crocetta, seeing as he is neither a biblical scholar nor a theologian, and that he does not hold any other title indicating competence in these matters, he wrote. The new pope,Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 76, publicly opposed equal marriage, and in the past described same-sex marriage and gay couples adopting as a destructive attack on God s plan.

The new pope has also said that same-sex adoption adoption is a form of discrimination and abuse against children.

US folk singer Michelle Shocked responds to backlash after anti-gay rant

Michelle Shocked denied that she was anti-gay and apologised for offending her fans (Image: Stuart Blythe) US folk singer Michelle Shocked, has responded to a backlash on social media sites, following what was described by fans as a hate speech during a performance when she expressed opposition to equal marriage, and LGBT rights. During an intimate gig at Yoshi s in San Francisco last weekend, the born-again Christian told the audience she hates fags and that same-sex marriage would bring about the end of the world.

51-year-old Shocked went into a full hate speech said one attendee, Matt Penfield, leaving audience members in disgust. She summed up by saying: You can go on Twitter and say Michelle Shocked says God hates fags, which led to most of the audience members leaving the venue.

Shocked said in a statement that she believed her comments were misinterpreted. She said: I do not, nor have I ever, said or believed that God hates homosexuals (or anyone else). I said that some of His followers believe that.

On the part of the gig when she told fans to tweet that she hated fags , Shocked said she was predicting the absurd way my description of, my apology for, the intolerant would no doubt be misinterpreted. The show was all music, and the audience tweets said they enjoyed it. The commentary came about ten minutes later, in the encore.

She went on to apologise to fans who were offended by the rant, claiming that she did not express herself as well as she should have, and that she was expressing someone else s views, on Proposition 8, California s ban on equal marriage. I m very sorry: I don t always express myself as clearly as I should, she said. But don t believe everything you read on Facebook or Twitter.

My view of homosexuality has changed not one iota. I judge not. And my statement equating repeal of Prop 8 with the coming of the End Times was neither literal nor ironic: it was a description of how some folks not me feel about gay marriage.

The show, and the rant, was spontaneous. As for those applauding my so-called stance that God Hates Faggots, I say they should be met with mercy, not hate, she went on. And I hope that what remains of my audience will meet that intolerance with understanding, even of those who might hate them.

She went on to address speculation that the rant was pre-planned, saying that it was not, and that it was not a PR stunt. Folks wonder about my sexuality, but denying being gay is like saying I never beat my husband. My sexuality is not at issue.

What is being questioned is my support for the LGBT community, and that has never wavered. Music and activism have always been part of my work and my journey, which I hope and intend to continue, she said. I am damn sorry.

If I could repeat the evening, I would make a clearer distinction between a set of beliefs I abhor, and my human sympathy for the folks who hold them. I say this not because I want to look better. I have no wish to hide my faults, and clearly I couldn t if I tried.

All concerts of her tour were cancelled by venues following the singer s anti-gay tirade except for two in June which were listed as tenative.

Ex-Sesame Street actor Kevin Clash accused of hosting crystal meth sex party with teenage boy

Kevin Clash was the voice of Elmo Former Sesame Street actor Kevin Clash, who left the show last year, has been accused of hosting a crystal meth sex party with a teenage boy. Clash, 52, resigned from the long-running US children s show in November 2012, in the wake of allegations that he had sex with an underage youth. In a lawsuit filed on Monday in a Pennsylvania district court, Sheldon Stephens claimed that he met Clash in 2004 at a social networking event for models and actors.

Stephens, who was 16 at the time, alleges Clash lured him to New York for sexual encounters. The lawsuit reads: Clash smoked crystal meth while engaging in sexual activity with Sheldon. Clash also gave Sheldon poppers as a sexual aide.

While Clash had sexual contact with Sheldon, the chauffeur watched and masturbated. Sheldon Stephens first made the allegations last year. His lawyer, Jeff Herman, said Stephens recanted over the possibility of a settlement, but none was ever reached.

Clash s lawyer, Michael Berger, said in a statement: This lawsuit is meritless and barred by the statute of limitations. This case has been brought by the same lawyer, Jeff Herman, who brought three other similar cases in federal courts in New York, and we have moved to dismiss all three of those cases. Sheldon Stephens, the plaintiff, has already admitted in writing that he had an adult consensual relationship with Mr Clash.

Mr Clash continues to deny any wrongdoing, and we intend to defend this case forcefully. Stephens is seeking unspecified damages in excess of $75,000 ( 49,460). This is the fourth lawsuit that Clash has faced since November, all of which accused him of having sex with underage males.

Pope Francis stood up for civil unions in an attempt to avoid equal marriage in Argentina

Pope Francis privately supported civil unions in a bid to stop Argentina's equal marriage bill (Image: Tumblr) The new Pope Francis, privately stood up for civil unions in Argentina in 2010, in a bid to stop the country from legalising equal marriage. A report by the New York times quotes the new pope s official biographer, who speaks of his support for civil unions in Argentina in 2010, which he described as a lesser of two evils . The biographer describes how, the former Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, during contention over the issue of equal marriage in Argentina, he suggested that the church support civil unions.

Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 76, publicly opposed equal marriage, and in the past described same-sex marriage and gay couples adopting as a destructive attack on God s plan. The new pope has also said that same-sex adoption adoption is a form of discrimination and abuse against children. He wagered on a position of greater dialogue with society, his biographer said.

He publicly criticised the equal marriage bill making its way through Argentina s legislature, but supported cilvil unions. The cardinal s proposal was subsequently killed during a heated debate between bishops, the report suggests. He listened to my views with a great deal of respect, one gay activist said, according to the biographer.

He told me that homosexuals need to have recognized rights and that he supported civil unions, but not same-sex marriage. Some critics have taken this as as sign that the new pope could signal a new and more progressive direction for the Catholic Church. In 2010, Argentina s Senate voted 33-27 to support a bill to legalise equal marriage.

President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner supported the legislation, making Argentina the first Latin American country to allow same-sex marriage, and full adoption. The decision of Pope Francis to greet Zimbabwe s President Robert Mugabe at the pontiff s inauguration mass has been met with condemnation from human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell. Last week ministers in Denmark dubbed the newly elected Pope Francis harmful , expressing disappointment that the Vatican did not choose someone more progressive on LGBT and women s rights, but remain hopeful that he may prove them wrong.

Video: Colombian model claims that eating chicken injected with hormones turns boys gay

A Colombian model has taken to the country s capital to make claims that boys eating chickens treated with hormones turns them gay, and that people need to be careful what they eat. Natalie Paris, 39, a popular model and animal rights activist, was filmed by Colombian television channel CaracolTV, outside a store, where she greeted fans, in the country s capital Bogota. These seven, eight, nine and 10 year old children who eat the chicken are having their feminine hormones accelerated and are starting to become homosexual, she says.

That s why those boys who are eating those chickens they re starting to turn into homosexuals, said Paris, going on to claim that people need to be more careful about what they eat. She goes on to claim that girls aged seven to ten also develop earlier because the hormones in the poultry cause puberty to take place sooner. The model came under heavy criticism from Facebook users for her comments, and the National Federation of Colombian Poultry Farmers (FENAVI) expressed their distaste at her claims.

Dismissing what Paris said as urban myths , FENAVI president Andres Fernando Moncada said: When you hear this kind of a statement from a public figure like Natalia Paris, we must express our total outrage. The model s comments caused outrage, however she is not the first to make similar sentiments. Back in 2010, the president of Bolivia backtracked, and said that remarks he made about eating chicken turning men gay were misconstrued .

Evo Morales caused shock when he told a conference on climate change: The chicken we eat is loaded with female hormones. So, when men eat it, they tend to deviate from their manhood. He also said eating chicken leads to baldness.

Upon the Bolivian president s comments, Cesar Cigliutti, president of the Comunidad Homosexual Argentina said his comments were absurd . It s an absurdity to think that eating hormone-containing chicken can change the sexual orientation of a person, he said, according to the Guardian. By following that reasoning, if we put male hormones in a chicken and we make a homosexual eat it he will transform into a heterosexual.

Video: Gay teen in viral coming out video urges New Jersey Senate committee to ban gay cure therapy

A gay teenager from New Jersey gave an impassioned speech to a Senate committee considering a ban on gay conversion therapy in the state, after he started a petition with over 110,000 signatures against the therapy, and his recent coming out video went viral. Jacob Rudolph, of Parsippany High School, New Jersey, spoke at the Senate committee, which passed the bill, S2278, banning the practice 7 votes to 1. Back in January, Mr Rudolph took to the stage to accept a senior class award for being Class Actor, but went on to come out as an LGBT teen during his acceptance speech delivered to over three hundred classmates.

The video of his coming out quickly went viral, and got over 2 million views. In his testimony to the committee, he said: It is beyond baffling to me that anyone might actually believe that sexual orientation is a lifestyle choice that can be altered if desired. Even more disturbing, however, is that there are organizations whose sole mission is to cure LGBT individuals of their orientation to truculent practices that have been deemed harmful and ineffective by the American Psychological Association.

Mr Rudolph had also created a change.org petition urging state Governor Chris Christie to support the legislation banning the practice, which received over 110,000 signatures. The bill will now advance to the full Senate for approval, despite criticism from the conservative New Jersey Family Policy Council. If successful, New Jersey will join California in being the only states to have banned the reparative therapy.

Back in October 2012, the US state of California banned the practice of gay conversion therapy when used on minors the first such legislation in the country. In December a federal judge blocked the new law, which was set to go into effect in January, and then Governor Jerry Brown appealed to have the law come into effect. Governor Brown said in a statement that gay conversion therapy had no basis in science or medicine, and that it would be relegated to the dustbin of quackery .

Last week, the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) notified the public that it had revoked the tax-exempt status for the National Association for the Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH), which aims to cure people of unwanted homosexuality .
