Goodbye ‘The New Normal’ and ‘Happy Endings’, Hello ‘Sean Saves the World’

Goodbye 'The New Normal' and 'Happy Endings', Hello 'Sean Saves the World' NBC has canceled the gay-themed The New Normal, and ABC has pulled the plug on Happy Endings, which has a prominent gay character, although another network may pick up the latter. The New Normal, created by Glee s Ryan Murphy and starring Justin Bartha and Andrew Rannells as a gay couple seeking to become parents with a surrogate mother, had just modest ratings in its one season. NBC announced the cancellation today; the network s only returning sitcoms will be the popular Parks & Recreation and the cult favorite Community, Deadline Hollywood reports. (The gay-inclusive Smash got the ax too, but we saw that coming .) On Happy Endings, an ensemble comedy about a group of Chicago friends, the nonstereotypical gay character Max , played by Adam Pally , became a breakout favorite.

ABC today announced that the show, which has been on for three seasons, will not be renewed. The USA Network, however, has expressed interest in it and likely will begin serious negotiations about picking it up now that the cancellation is official, according to Deadline Hollywood. Meanwhile, out actor Sean Hayes will have a new sitcom on NBC this fall in which he plays a divorced gay man trying to balance the demands of his work, his teenage daughter, and his overbearing mother.

NBC announced this week that it had picked up Sean Saves the World, in which the Will & Grace veteran will costar with Sami Isler as his daughter (both pictured) and Linda Lavin of Alice fame as his mom. Also appearing are Thomas Lennon, who played Reno 911! s shorts-clad gay cop Lt.

Jim Dangle, plus Lindsay Sloane and Echo Kellum. The creative team includes Hayes and Todd Milliner as executive producers, Will & Grace director James Burrows as director and executive producer, and Victor Fresco as writer and producer. The show is a production of Universal Television and Hazy Mills Productions.

Are you bummed about the cancellations?

Do you have high hopes for Sean Saves the World ? Continue reading

WATCH: Jay Leno’s Bummed Andy Cohen Wouldn’t Shag Him

WATCH: Jay Leno's Bummed Andy Cohen Wouldn't Shag Him "Shag, Marry, Kill" is all fun and games until someone unshaggable gets his feelings hurt. A recent guest on The Tonight Show , Bravo's Andy Cohen was totally put on the spot when Jay Leno, who apparently knows everything, called Andy out for his rather unflattering response to "Shag, Marry, Kill" the previous day on a local Chicago chat show. Andy had been forced to choose between late-night hosts Jay Leno, Dave Letterman, and Jimmy Kimmel.

I m on Leno tomorrow night, so I d hate to kill him," Andy had said. "That would be bad. I don t want to shag him. Cue Leno mock-pouting and guest LL Cool J being awkward about the whole situation.

Do you want me to want to shag you? Andy asked. It would be nice to know I was wanted, replied Leno, who later gloated over the fact that he "nailed his ass." Check out the clip below.

And while we're on the subject...

between Jay Leno, Dave Letterman, and Jimmy Kimmel, whom would you shag, marry, or kill? Continue reading

Meme: Snoop Lion Says Rap Is Too Masculine For Gays, Facebook Home Features Calpernia Addams and Shangela, and "Kinky Boots" Kicks High On…

For reasons that aren't completely clear, Denise Crosby will be the Celebrity Grand Marshall for the Boston Pride Parade. Crosby is most famous as Tasha Yar on Star Trek: The Next Generation , but if she's been an advocate for GLBT rights, I've missed it beyond appearing in Star Trek: Blood and Fire . Still gay geeks are no doubt thrilled.

Also from the geeky side, NASA is planning to send a robotic space craft to retrieve an asteroid in 2019, pulling it into stable orbit past the moon, then send astronauts to study it. It's the ambitious type of exploration we've been missing. Snoop Dog Lion doesn't think gays will ever be welcome in rap, or the locker room for that matter. " Frank Ocean ain't no rapper.

He's a singer. It's acceptable in the singing world, but in the rap world I don't know if it will ever be acceptable because rap is so masculine. It's like a football team.

You can't be in a locker room full of mother*cking tough-ass dudes, then all of a sudden say, 'Hey, man, I like you.' You know, that's going to be tough." Hey Snoop, 1) I think we can control ourselves; 2) Gays are tough, we have to be with all the crap we take from the likes of you, and a gay athlete at the professional level would be tougher still. Ray J is trying to get some publicity for his new album by putting a pixilated version of Kim Kardashian on the cover and using the title "I Hit It First." Some of the charming lyrics include "She might move on to rappers and ball players / But we all know I hit it first" as well as "If you woulda come back to me girl we ll make another movie. In a move that should surprise no one, Congressional Republicans are demanding to know what kind of permission Beyonce and Jay-Z received to travel to Cuba on vacation.

Travel is hugely restricted for Americans, and the Carters are major Obama supporters, so everyone smells scandal. Personally, while Cuba still has some major issues and a dark past, I think the best way the U.S. could effect change (if it wanted to) is to lift travel restrictions and let the resort money flow in and we can corrupt their society like we've done with much of the world.

Congratulations to Christopher Schelling and Augusten Burroughs , who wed Monday on Staten Island. S.H.I.E.L.D. is now known as Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is a bit unwieldy if you ask me, and the Marvel seems redundant.

But like most bloggers, I just hate typing all those periods in the name. The show has no buzz, but that's because a select few are all that have seen it, and it's considered pretty much a lock to get picked up to series. Fox News reporter Jane Winter is under pressure to reveal a confidential source in relation to the James Holmes trial in Colorado, and nobody is talking about it.

The only mention before the Buzzfeed piece I had seen was a brief note on The Five on Fox News at the gym on Friday, and some say that it's hatred of Fox News that's keeping the story from being talked about. Generally speaking, the confidentiality of journalistic sources is a big deal, and no court should be threatening a reporter with jail time to reveal. Codebreaker , the docu-drama about Alan Turing , is heading to theaters under the "theater on demand" program, where any theater can book the movie when a sufficient number of movie goers pledge to see the film in advance.

Current screenings are lined up in Chicago, New York, Seattle, and San Francisco, and details on how to purchase tickets is at the link. Jonathan Knight left the stage of a New Kids On the Block concert Thursday, then tweeted "I'm sorry." Knight has talked about suffering from anxiety before. He never returned to the stage, but did make his Today Show performance Friday morning.

Kinky Boots , the new Broadway musical from Harvey Fierstein and Cindy Lauper is getting positive reviews, even if they say it can be a little preachy. Notably, the music from Lauper carries you through the message moments. Paul Reubens is set to voice the White Rabbit in Wonderland , the Once Upon a Time spinoff.

The Rabbit will be a CGI character in the show, which can't be cheap. Continue reading
