Thought For The Day: "Be A Soldier Of Christ"

"God doesn't like boys who cry. Be a soldier of Christ." A Roman Catholic priest to a young boy he'd just raped, according to the now adult victim, Pat McEwan (pictured). From an article on systematic child abuse and its cover-up - Catholic Priests Unmasked - in The Observer.

The priest was visiting the boy's family, and was trying to get him to stop crying before his mum came back from a nearby holy shrine he'd told her to visit. McEwan says he was the victim of a paedophile ring, and was first abused by his parish priest who told him; "I've just been talking to Jesus and he says would you like to go to heaven? Do you love your mummy?" Yes Father. "Do you love your daddy?" Yes Father. "Do you love me?

Legally Gay In Lanzarote

Lanzarote is an incredibly liberal community, and gay people are welcomed into it, and integrated quickly within it. Legally, Spain is well ahead of the curve as well, allowing gay marriage (only one partner needs to be Spanish or a legal resident of Spain) and with a judicial system that very clearly instructs judges against any kind of discrimination. Sodomy was legalised here as far back as 1822 (until then people convicted were burned at the stake!) There may be some areas of rural Spain that still harbour some homophobia, and the Catholic Church, very much a part of Spain, still opposes homosexuality. read more Continue reading
