Britain – Alive with Pride

From queens to cubs, Britain is calling on travelers to find out why the country’s alive with pride. As one of the most gay-friendly destinations, Britain offers world-class museums, high fashion shops and round the clock nightlife. FESTIVALS There's nothing like a festival to stretch the mind and tickle the ribs all in a series of connected parties. Only in London will visitors find the best LGBT festivals around. Pride London (June 18 – July 3) is a two week festival showcasing theatre, music, art and entertainment in the heart of the capital, attracting over a million people. In Wales, Cardiff Mardi Gras (August 29 – September 4) is at the heart of the country’s main LGBT celebration. Brighton Pride (July 31 – August 8) takes over the town for the first week of August, culminating in a flamboyant parade from the seafront to Preston Park and street parties on St James's Street. Pride Scotia (June 26) is Edinburgh’s all-encompassing Pride celebration, with an eye very much on diversity and personal identity. With a parade and political rally at its core, Pride Scotia is very much Scotland’s ball-busting, sit-up-and-take-notice celebration of gay life. In 2012, London will host World Pride 2012 (June 23 – July 8) and is expected to attract over one million visitors. The main parade will be held on July 7. ACCOMMODATION When it comes to where to stay, the UK covers everything from stylish boutique hotels with a culture all their own to country homes for relaxing weekends. The Montague on the Gardens is a traditional London townhouse centrally located within walking distance of Covent Garden, Oxford Street and theatres. The hotel’s Bloomsbury Rooms are individually decorated with luxury fabrics and furnishings. Five of these make-up the "Bloomsbury Set", named after the famous literary group of the 1920s and 30s and each has distinctive decor inspired by the artistic ideals of the group. The Dragon Hotel in Swansea, Wales is a premier 4-star hotel located in the heart of the city centre. The hotel offers guests a leisure club featuring an 18-meter indoor swimming pool, male and female saunas, a state of the art gymnasium and treatment rooms. myhotel Brighton is an uber cool hotel in the heart of the UK’s gayest city. It has been designed in line with the principles of ‘feng shui’, with each of its floors reflecting a different body chakra. The jinja treatment room at the hotel offers a range of eastern health and beauty rituals. NIGHTLIFE Whether it’s bearish, fetish or lesbian, Britain’s club scene attracts all LGBT travelers. For travelers seeking for a very London gay experience, Royal Vauxhall Tavern is the place to start. This pub-turned-legendary gay venue operates an anything-goes booking policy. The most famous fixture is Saturday's queer performance night Duckie with Amy Lam Continue reading
