The rooftop of the EU: At the top of the Shard

At the beginning of December, I learned via Twitter that the owners of the Shard, the EU's tallest building which has recently being completed, had donated 4000 tickets to access The View from the Shard, the viewing galleries on the 68th and 72nd floors of the giant to Southwark residents.

All we had to do was go to our local library with proof of residence and collect our tickets.

Whoever Made This Anti-Gay Postcard Sure Loves Gay Adult Websites

Whoever Made This Anti-Gay Postcard Sure Loves Gay Adult Websites Sending out anti-gay mailers during election season is a time-honored political tradition like ballot stuffing and gerrymandering. But how did Republican New York senator Mark Grisanti end up the victim of the anonymous anti-gay postcard (shown left) accusing him of being a political whore? And is the postcard even real or just a crude mockup meant to generate web-buzz?

After voicing opposition to same-sex marriage in his 2010 senatorial election campaign, Grisanti later became the target of anti-gay conservatives by voting for the 2011 Marriage Equality Act that legalized same-sex marriage statewide. But according to Politico the offensive postcard currently circulating against Grisanti has only appeared on the internet and not actually in any mailboxes in his congressional district. Also, the piece's listed creator, the Committee to Save the Erie County Republican Party, doesn't appear in Google searches, making its true culprit hard to identify.

However, a reader of the gay porn blog The Sword pointed out that the postcard's images come from the gay porn site Corbin Fisher and that considering Fisher's vigilant campaign to track down all illegal re-posting of its content the porn studio could very well end up tracking down whatever pirate dared use a picture from "Fucking Skip" for his own selfish political gain. Despite the sexy men kissing and humping each other, the ad is disgusting for it's crappy design, its faux outrage over the financial benefitting of Grisanti's vote and its conflation of marriage equality with child rape "Make sure your Son says, 'Thank you Mark Grisanti." The idea is that Grisanti has pimped out the sons of New York and that marriage equality will make your kid turn into a ravenous bottom. Truth is, all politicians gain financial support from those who agree with their policy stances.

And in this instance Grisanti made a principled stand.

In comparison, his political foes lack the courage to come out from hiding and put a name and face to their disgusting political views.

Hopefully Grisanti and Corbin Fisher will both take them to the cleaners this November. Continue reading
