50th Anniversary Who

The twentieth season of Doctor Who began on 3 January 1983 with the story Arc of Infinity , and ended 16 March 1983 with The King's Demons . A 20th Anniversary special, The Five Doctors , followed in November 1983. To commemorate the twentieth season, the stories in this season involve the return of previous villains.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Hmm. I wonder whether the rest of series 7 of New Who might do the same for the 50th. We know there will be a 50th anniversary special on 23 November 2013, and we have: New look Ice Warriors New look Cybermen: and an Egyptian evil....

TV: Harlot’s Web

'Netflix's high-cost, highly watched House of Cards blazed a new trail for mass-market, internet-based television, but Kevin Spacey's political blockbuster could have come from any of the traditional US networks. Not so far away on the web, a clutch of series aimed at the gay community filmed for a sliver of the $100m House of Cards budget yet still attracting a respectable audience are showing up the reluctance of mainstream broadcasters in the US to stray far from the middle of the road. Where the Bears Are focuses on a group of husky, hairy sleuths living in Palm Springs; Husbands revolves around a newly out sports jock and a fey tabloid star who marry on a whim; Hunting Season is a sexually frank show about a 20-something gay man exploring the sexscape of New York; and The Outs is about two ex-boyfriends coming to terms with post-breakup life in Brooklyn...' Interesting - if somewhat uncritical - round-up of US "gay web dramas" on The Guardian online.

Given a silly headline, implying American TV doesn't do gay. Hello!?? Obviously I'm all in favour of alternative media and sticking it to the man etc, but all the ones I've seen were - how can I put this...

not very good?

Hope I'm wrong on this. Continue reading

Bullying

I don't know about you guys, but I didn't really know that bullying and intimidation started so early in school nowadays.

When I was younger in Ireland I can't think of any instances where I felt "less than." When I moved to America in middle school, I definitely felt it then.

I was made fun for man ... Continue reading

Q&A Quickie: Madame’s Back and Randy as Ever

Q&A Quickie: Madame's Back and Randy as Ever Before there were divas on every channel, Madame was one of the world s most outrageous, dishing out randy double entendres for years as a guest on Laugh-In, Solid Gold, and Hollywood Squares, where she answered the final question on the last episode of the long-running game show. She even had her own short-lived sitcom, Madame s Place. More recently, she appeared on Seth MacFarlane s Family Guy and Bravo s Watch What Happens Live!

with host Andy Cohen. Her creator, puppeteer-comedian Wayland Flowers, was among the first openly gay entertainers and helped pave the way for many others to come before his untimely death in 1988. Now that Madame has found a new straight man the talented and funny Gary Holland the comedy legend is back onstage, chasing laughs and, of course, men.

Legendary party-producer and White Party founder Jeffrey Sanker will honor Madame during the weekend-long bacchanal (Mar.

29-31) when he christens her with the title of Dame. We caught up with the notorious cougar, who has an affinity for gay men, before her upcoming aristocratic ascension to ask about her return to the spotlight, the first time she met Sanker, and where a Dame goes to get a drink in Palm Springs. Gay.net: Where have you been keeping yourself?

Madame: Oh, honey, I ve been traveling, everywhere from Bangkok to Bangladesh. I ve done everything twice and loved it both times. Now I m performing again, trying to put a smile on everyone s face, even if I have to do it one man at a time.

When did you first meet Jeffrey Sanker? I met him back in the Studio 54 days. He was so young.

He spilled a drink in my lap and, being a gentleman, insisted on having it cleaned. Well, we went in the back and worked it out. And then later, we worked it back in!

I slipped him my number and it only took him 22 years to call me. Men! Which is your favorite: pool party or underwear party?

Which is the one where everyone ends up naked and wet? What music are you listening to these days? Oh, I just love those sexy DJs, Dave and Gerardo.

And Pornstar. With a name like that, how can you go wrong? But right now, I m listening to the voices in my head sing Diana Ross s Love Hangover.

I think I need a cocktail. Where do you like to go in Palm Springs? I usually run into Wang s for a quickie and sometimes stay for dinner.

I also enjoy a good, long ride, and the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway isn t bad either. Or I follow my nose to Toucan s for the drag shows. But the original cougar is definitely in her natural habitat when she s tracking go-go boys at Hunter s.

Honey, I hit all the bars. After all, this is the desert and you simply must stay hydrated. What is the most important thing to have when you travel?

A well-stocked minibar and a sense of humor.

You will definitely need both, but not necessarily in that order. (Via Advocate ) Continue reading

Oahu, the Gay Gem of the Ocean

Oahu, the Gay Gem of the Ocean Let s dispense with the somewhat snobbish notion that Oahu is just for tourists and that true travelers venture to Hawaii s less cultivated and populated islands of Maui and Kauai. With its magnificent stretch of sand beach, inviting warm blue water, and dynamic view of Diamond Head, there s a very good reason that Honolulu s Waikiki was a favorite of the Hawaiian royal family and is still commonly considered the playground of the Pacific. As the energetic center of the Hawaiian Islands, Oahu has grown in recent years and is now filled with renovated hotels, exquisite restaurants, boutique shopping, and pulsating nightlife.

And since the state s civil unions law went into effect this year, Honolulu has also emerged as an affordable destination for both same-sex weddings and honeymoons. Travelers who desire to mix romance with luxury will do no better than the Royal Hawaiian . The iconic pink palace is the city s grande dame of hospitality.

The rooms are lavishly appointed and offer breathtaking views of the Pacific. The staff welcomes guests with traditional lei greetings and then offers exceptional customer service tailored to every guest s whim. A section of the beach is reserved for guests of the hotel, providing comfortable lounge chairs and eye-catching umbrellas for relief from the endless sunshine.

Across the driveway is the majestic Sheraton Waikiki , which towers over the other beachfront hotels, offering gorgeous views, luxurious amenities, and an attentive staff. The Helumoa Playground is a shared pool area for guests of both hotels and features two freshwater swimming pools (one for adults only), a 15-foot-high waterslide, and a pair of large whirlpool spas. Adjacent to both properties is the Royal Hawaiian Center , an enclave of dining, entertainment, and shopping opportunities that spans four stories and more than three city blocks.

High-end fashion shops Bulgari, Fendi, and Herm s among others nestle next to a variety of affordable dining options, including the Five-Star International Buffet, with a tempting array of local, regional, and international culinary delights. The center s courtyard offers a multitude of entertainment options, including a concert featuring Elton John and Lady Gaga impersonators, as well as complimentary cultural classes in hula dancing, lei making, ukulele playing, quilting, and weaving. Visitors with classic sensibilities will undoubtedly revel in the Old World luxury of Shangri La , the estate of the late heiress-philanthropist Doris Duke.

Situated on a stunning rocky cliff of the Pacific with a distinctive view of Diamond Head and considered one of the island s most architecturally significant homes, Shangri La also houses an impressive collection of Islamic art. There are at least two monthly events with special appeal to the gay and lesbian traveler. On the last Sunday of each month, the Sheraton Waikiki hosts Phoenix, Hawaii s only oceanfront LGBT party, at Rumfire , the hotel s stylish restaurant.

For the culture-minded, Art After Dark is a hugely popular art and cocktails mixer at the Honolulu Museum of Art on Beretania Street. The event takes place the last Friday of the month, January through October. Film fans may want to plan vacations around the Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival , showcasing the best in LGBT cinema, which typically takes place around the same time as Honolulu Pride (late May early June).

EAT Azure Restaurant: Patrons with discerning palates and without budgetary restrictions can dine on the island s most delectable fruits de mer and fish caught fresh each morning in an exquisite oceanfront space adorned with plush banquettes. AzureWaikiki.com PLAY Hula s: Oahu s most venerable gay bar is also perhaps its most beautiful. Enjoy a tropical cocktail and a pupu while taking in the spectacular open-air view of Diamond Head and Kapiolani Park.

Hulas.com Waikiki Beach Services: Learn surfing, outrigger canoeing, stand-up paddling, and catamaran sailing from a crew of rugged, experienced beach boys. WaikikiBeachServices.com SIDE TRIP North Shore: An hour s drive from Waikiki takes you to Banzai Pipeline, Waimea Bay, and Sunset Beach three of Oahu s most famous surf spots.
