Video: Stronger Together, 2012 Democratic National Convention

President Barack Obama took to the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, and talked about the Democrats support for the LGBT community. The video addresses Obama s past support for LGBT people, and in his speech he acknowledges that there we still have a long way to go, but we will get there. It s about our common humanity.

It s about our willingness to walk in someone else s shoes. Imagine worrying about a spose in the hospital, with the added fear that you ll have to produce a legal document just to comfort them. My expectation is that, when you look back on these years, you will see a time in which we put a stop to discrimination against gays and lesbians.

You will see a time in which we, as a nation, finally recognised relationships between two men, or two women, as just as real and admirable as relationships between a man and a woman. Yesterday, US First Lady Michele Obama, addressed a group of LGBT Democratic party members at a lunch event sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign in Charlotte. The Democratic Party National Conference kicked off on Monday.

They announced support for equal marriage in their plank, and were praised for representing, and embracing the LGBT community in the US.
